This Wiki is all about Public Information Films, a short film designed to inform the public. PIFs began being used in the 1940s. They were supplied free to television broadcasters who frequently in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s used them to fill unsold advertising time and consequently became known by them and the Central Office of Information (COI) as 'fillers'. As advertising time became more used from the 1990s, PIFs are less frequently seen today.
